Renewables Accounting Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY

The Renewables Accounting Supervisor position will be responsible for leading a team of accountants, including two team leads, who perform financial accounting for Southern Power Company's renewable energy generating facilities. This position will have responsibility for various income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow accounting tasks. In addition, this position will ensure the financial records are maintained in accordance with GAAP, FERC, and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and will provide support for Southern Power's various SEC, partnership, and internal reporting requirements. Finally, this position will report to Southern Power's Accounting Manager and may coordinate work across teams related to acquisitions and divestitures. This is a hybrid position within the Southern Power Comptroller's organization and is located in Atlanta, Georgia.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a team of six to nine people in the monthly closing of the Company's financial records using Oracle Cloud.
  • Oversee and review the completion of monthly journal entries, analysis of financial transactions and results, account reconciliations, and other accounting duties as required (may include acquisition-related accounting).
  • Ensure proper consolidation and intercompany eliminations of subsidiaries.
  • Ensure compliance with all Sarbanes-Oxley regulations, including compilation of control evidence and review/approval of direct reports' internal controls.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of accounting information that supports or may be included in monthly management reporting.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of accounting information that supports or may be included in Southern Power's 10-Q, 10-K, or partnership financials.
  • Assist with financial audits of Southern Power and its subsidiaries.
  • Involve Accounting Research and relevant subject matter experts to address technical accounting matters.
  • Promote innovation and create workflow efficiencies in a dynamic environment.
  • Focus on people development by providing motivation, continuous training, coaching, and performance management for direct reports.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (or related field) is required.
  • Advanced degree is desirable.
  • CPA license (or equivalent) is strongly preferred.


Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • 7 or more years of experience in accounting or related fields is required.
  • Prior supervisory experience, including performance management, is required.
  • Proficiency in applying GAAP and accounting principles is required.
  • Experience with and a strong understanding of month-end close, journal entries, and account reconciliations is required.
  • Experience with and strong understanding of analysis of financial transactions, financial statements, and internal controls is preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of the utility industry and the FERC chart of accounts is a plus.
