Description

The Personal Trainer reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides comprehensive wellness/fitness programming for clients on an individual or small group basis.
  • Adheres to Northwestern Medicines performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of Northwestern Medicine.
  • Provides needs assessment to clients:
    • Sets schedule with client.
    • Provides fitness assessment according to industry guidelines.
    • Provides follow-up session.
    • Determines client goals.
  • Develops training program based upon needs assessment:
    • Researches areas of issue, concern or disease.
    • Remains current in industry standards.
    • Develops innovative plans ensuring safety and variety.
    • Monitors client's progress and modifies program as necessary.
  • Provides training sessions/fitness classes:
    • Motivates and encourages clients.
    • Communicates with clients regarding activity, form and safety.
    • Documents program and activities.
    • Educates clients.
    • Handles equipment properly and safely.
    • Provides/instructs fitness classes according to description.
  • Promotes Wellness Center internally and externally:
    • Demonstrates interest in improving wellness and fitness of clients.
    • Presents at employer and community health promotion events.
    • Promotes and markets personal training programs to increase client base.
    • Provides membership options to participants.
  • Adheres to all safety, infection control and employee health policies and procedures:
    • Attends required safety programs.
    • Appropriately and consistently uses the personal protective equipment required of the job.
    • Knows and can demonstrate departmental emergency procedures for fire, disaster and other emergency situations.
    • Reports and removes unsafe equipment/furniture.
    • Asks for assistance when needed to assure safety for all involved.
    • Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe working habits.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Must have 2 years of work experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with cardiovascular machines and free weight equipment.
  • High language, intermediate math, high reasoning ability.
  • Personal computer, word processing.
  • Ability to convey a positive image and build a positive relationship with others.
  • Ability to work with a large degree of independence.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • ACE-CPT, ACSM-CPT, NETA-CPT, NASM-CPT, or NSCA-CPT certification.
  • BLS.


Preferred:

  • Associate's degree: Applied Science Health and Wellness or equivalent work experience.
