Description

***This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, position based out of Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, IL. Several position available throughout the Chicago metro area including Southern Illinois, Missouri, Indiana and Iowa.***

The Lab Education Coordinator reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Lab Education Coordinator under the direction of the Manager, Lab Education Coordinator has the authority and accountability for facilitating the education of staff on the proper specimen collection, ensuring competency, and quality in the pre-analytical phase of testing. The coordinator will support staff on training, competency, and other duties as assigned. The coordinator will assist in regulatory and accreditation compliance audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

COORDINATION OF TRAINING, ONBOARDING, and EVALUATION:

  • Assists in the development of standard operating procedures and document control.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, local, TJO, CAP, CLSI and other multi-disciplinary, hospital regulations, policies and procedures relating to phlebotomy. Reports significant events to NM management and Directors as required.
  • Facilitates a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach to patient care and interdepartmental problem solving/service delivery relating to phlebotomy.
  • Develops and facilitates training program to orient laboratory staff as needed on NM policies, Laboratory General and Safety procedures
  • Oversees the orientation and initial training of lab personnel according to guidelines established by Laboratory Management and Human Resources.
  • Performs new employee departmental orientation for all new employees in the Department of Pathology including NM policies, Laboratory General and Safety procedures
  • Performs onboarding for all new employees for necessary IT access and setup
  • Tracks and ensures that all on-line employee education for phlebotomy is completed as required
  • Participates in staff meetings and solicits feedback on staff education.
  • Conducts audits, evaluates, and prepares reports recommending improvements in process and /or workflow for phlebotomy and reports to appropriate manager.
  • Assures that responses to audits and/or trainings are well documented via email or appropriate checklist.
  • Communicates effectively with others, respects diverse opinions, and styles and acknowledges the assistance and contributions of others.
  • May be required to work on weekends dependent on business needs.
  • Manages work schedule efficiently, completing tasks and assignments on time.
  • Participates in efforts to streamline and improve work processes.
  • Ensures staff are maintaining a safe work environment while supporting staff on safe work practices.

  • Identifies and communicates key issues and staff development opportunities needs to Leadership team.
  • Initiates improvement initiatives and oversees their successful completion.


TECHNICAL

  • Adheres to hospital and department policies and procedures.
  • Records and maintains patient and employee information as required by the laboratory and accrediting agencies, e.g. CAP, TJC.
  • Assists in the development, revision, and updating of phlebotomy or lab procedures and relevant documentation.
  • Performs other duties as applicable.
  • Reports to NM or HealthLab affiliated offices to assist in re-education of proper laboratory procedures.
  • Performs phlebotomy and lab related tasks on all ages that are aligned with the NM standards of patient care and patient safety.
  • Serves as liaison between laboratory and clinical staff in support of Clinical Quality Management activities.
  • Familiar with medical EMR systems.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Qualifications

Required :

  • Associate's degree and/or 5+ years of applicable healthcare experience.
  • ASCP or NHA certified


Preferred :

  • Bachelors degree in applicable discipline
