Position Description

This position is to serve as a pilot within the company's flight department. Pilots demonstrate excellent customer service while providing safe, efficient, and effective aerial transportation in support of the strategic business objectives and initiatives of Southern Company and subsidiaries.

Position Location

  • Dekalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK) in Atlanta, Georgia, or Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport (BHM) in Birmingham, AL
  • Must currently reside, or being willing to relocate, within 1.5 hours of the assigned facility*

Minimum Qualifications: Captain

This position is open to all pilots who meet the criteria listed below, however, preference may be given to dual rated pilots. If dual rated, the successful applicant will be expected to serve as either a fixed-wing captain, or rotary-wing captain, with additional responsibilities as a first officer on the alternate platform. Captain assignments will be based upon relevant experience.

Note: The flight hour requirements, listed below, are the minimum required to be considered for a Captain position.

Flight Time Requirements:

  • Fixed Wing: 3000 TT, 1500 PIC Multi-Engine, 1000 Hours Multi-Engine Turbine (Preferred).
  • Airline Transport Pilot Certificate required.
  • Rotor Wing: 3000 TT, 1000 PIC Multi-Engine, 500 Turbine (Preferred)


Certificates and Rating

  • Fixed Wing: Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate with Multi-Engine Rating required.
  • Rotor Wing: Commercial with Instrument and Multi-Engine Ratings; ATP preferred.
  • First-Class FAA Medical Certificate (Must be able to acquire)


Minimum Qualifications: First Officer

  • Fixed Wing: 1500 TT (1000 TT w/ ATP), 500 PIC Multi-Engine, 500 Hours Multi-Engine Turbine (Preferred)
  • Rotor Wing (If Applicable): 1500 TT, (1000 TT w/ ATP), 500 PIC Multi-Engine, 500 Turbine (Preferred)


Certificates and Ratings

  • Commercial Pilot Certificate, with Multi-Engine and Instrument Ratings.
  • First-Class FAA Medical Certificate (Must be able to acquire)


Formal Education Requirements

  • High School Diploma, or equivalent.
  • College Degree: Desirable


Job Description

  • Perform Pilot-In-Command (PIC) and/or Second-In-Command (SIC) duties, as defined in the General Operations Manual (GOM) and operate according to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be a cooperative team player who exhibits high levels of interpersonal skill and emotional intelligence.
  • Applicants must possess strong analytical reasoning and critical thinking skills. The successful applicant will have demonstrated the ability to solve complex problems in in rapidly evolving, dynamic environments.
  • Must accept flexible and dynamic schedules, including early mornings, late nights, weekend flights and overnight travel.
  • Be willing to accept temporary assignments at other company domiciles, on occasion.
  • Must have excellent communications skills.
  • Must be able to interact appropriately with executive level customers.
  • Participate in, and actively support, the Safety Management System (SMS) and ISBAO Standards.
  • Personally, and professionally, model all aspects of company culture - Safety First, Intentional Inclusion, Act with Integrity, and Superior Performance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Pilot.
