On Friday, April 29, 2005 from 8:00 to 9:30 AM, the College of DuPage hosted an AbilityLinks breakfast for employers to share with other employers how hiring people with disabilities has been a good business decision. Close to fifty individuals participated. Besides getting a look at the new AbilityLinks Web site, they learned about some of the valuable employment services that AbilityLinks consortium members offer to local businesses.

On October 20, 2004, AbilityLinks participated in National Disability Mentoring Day where job seekers had the chance to spend a few hours shadowing an employee in their field of interest.

On December 16, 2003, AbilityLinks hosted a training seminar at Boise Office Solutions in Itasca, Illinois, for employers interested in gaining practical insights on hiring and accommodating candidates with disabilities. The focus of the program was on understanding and applying Title I/Employment of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

On November 13, 2003, AbilityLinks held its second annual meeting at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital. This year`s featured speaker was Mr. Steve Pogorzelski, president of Monster and over 160 people were in attendance.

Diana Pehas, a resident of Darien and a student in her last year at Downers Grove South High School, took part in National Mentoring Day activities last month (Oct. 16). Paul Gurgone enjoys his new job in the Dietary department of St. Patrick`s Residence in Naperville, Illinois. Paul is responsible for distributing menu choices and serving milk and coffee to residents in the dining room. His supervisor, Andrea tells AbilityLinks Paul is a welcome addition to the team and is doing a great job.
