DESCRIPTION

This position provides creativity, leadership, and forward-thinking direction for all aspects of Energy Services. This position leads a department of experts related to energy management, energy generation, technology applications, industrial processes, and preventive/predictive maintenance.

This position will lead a team in developing, selling, and executing projects with our customers aimed at delivering customer value and net income to our organization.

This position is also responsible for end use electric technology sales support related to generating revenue for the regulated core business.

This position is also responsible for working with customers in structuring financing options that meet customer hurdle rates. This includes developing work scopes with paybacks that are life cycle cost analyzed to meet customer needs and financial requirements.

This position is also responsible for taking the lead in Marketing related to developing proactive opportunities for MPC in the area of co-generation (as defined by conventional CT technologies, combined cycle generation technologies, or other Combined Heat and Power (CHP) technologies). Additionally, this position is responsible for working with customers on third party or direct customer initiated on site co-generation. This position will serve as a focal point in coordinating both the internal MPC resources of Marketing Sales, Generation Planning as well as SCS Retail Generation Development and other system groups to provide support to customer on-site co-generation or CHP.

This position has broad responsibility and decision-making authority for Mississippi Power. This role will engage with multiple levels of leadership both internally within Mississippi Power but also with existing customers and partners.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position must ensure all aspects of the business department team are managed and executed efficiently and effectively. This position will be required to recruit and develop an effective and diverse department team.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain a team entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Drive results through external sales and business development related to Energy Services in the Federal, MUSH, Industrial and commercial markets.
  • Develop strong relationships and communicate effectively with internal and external allies and customers.
  • Actively participate and assume a leadership position on the System Federal Teams.
  • Manage the MPC consulting engineer strategy that develops strong working relationships with outside consulting engineering allies. These ally relationships should support MPC's goal of both developing and supporting solutions that drive end use retail sales as well as Energy Services in all markets.
  • Effectively lead a highly trained team that develops sales opportunities and executes projects.
  • Effectively manage potential cross-subsidy concerns between the regulated and unregulated business units; as well as, between affiliate business units.
  • Demonstrate competency in reviewing and evaluating business opportunities to ensure compliance with Company's corporate policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate excellent decision-making judgment in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Manage business segment budget to be at or below Company mandated goals.
  • Effectively interface with leadership and decision makers within potential partners such as construction firms, financial institutions, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Lead, motivate and provide performance management to a team of engineers, project managers and maintenance technicians to successfully achieve net income goals.
  • Cultivate employees by establishing individual employee development plans.

Education

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required.
  • Certified Energy Manager required.
  • A Master's Degree in Business Administration is a plus.
  • A Professional Engineering License is a plus.
  • A qualified Commercial Contractor's in the State of MS is a plus.


Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in developing and implementing Energy Service projects related to all aspects of project development, engineering, construction management, and performance assurance is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in project management executing complex multi-faceted projects is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in commercial construction in the State of MS is required.
  • Experience in competitive structuring and pricing of multi-million-dollar Energy Services projects is required.
  • Familiarity in the MUSH market Energy Services projects including State statutes and requirements is required.
  • Experience working across functional areas within an operating company and/or other Southern Company affiliates is desired.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to review, understand technical and business proposals.
  • Working knowledge of competitive practices with Antitrust laws.
  • Working knowledge of customer mechanical and electrical systems, including lighting, boilers, chillers, motors, drives and HVAC equipment operations and design for all classes of customers.
  • Working knowledge of end use equipment including, HVAC, process heat, boilers, industrial chillers, waste heat recovery, control systems, electrical systems, dedicated dehumidification systems, annealing, heat treating, hardening of metals, water treatment and purification technologies, motors and drives, and other end use technologies.
  • Complete operational and design knowledge of co-generation systems.
  • Understanding of renewable energy programs, energy sustainability goals and energy efficiency programs for all classes of customers.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing business environments.
  • Ability to effectively lead an organization to net income goal achievement through economic and regulatory uncertainty.
  • Ability to optimize team effectiveness by recruiting and developing diverse talent.
  • Able to stimulate creative ideas from team members.
  • An understanding of all business units within the Company.
  • Knowledge of Company procedures.

  • Must be organized and attentive to details and can manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, including interface with MPC management, customers, engineers, contractors, and equipment vendors.
  • Ability to resolve problems and other issues in a positive manner between customers, manufacturers, contractors, and other stake holders.
  • Must be able to travel, primarily within the Company's service territory, occasional overnight travel.
